Moon Bahamas

Released March 12th, 2019

Moon Bahamas is the first edition of a comprehensive travel guide to The Bahamas. Between August 2017 through May 2018 I traveled extensively throughout the country researching the best restaurants, accommodations, sights and activities with a visitor’s best interest in mind. The book is not an exhaustive list, but a list of options that I can personally recommend to travelers. The book has a wide readership on the west coast of the United States and Canada. It is due to be released in early 2019 and will be available from retailers such as Amazon and Barnes and Noble in paperback print and in e-reader format.

Of interesting note – all other Bahamas travel guidebooks were written by visitors, or are divided up in chapters with multiple authors. Moon Bahamas is the first full-length guidebook written by someone who resides full-time in The Bahamas.

Additional details from Moon:

“Since its creation in 1973, the Moon Handbooks series has become a top choice among travelers who want a completely unique experience. Each guide contains not only detailed information on the best transportation, accommodation, restaurant, and sightseeing options, but also custom maps and fascinating sidebars—all the tools travelers need to create a trip that is theirs alone.

Moon is based in Berkeley, California. The authors and staff are committed to travel as a way of bringing people together, encouraging tolerance, and building global understanding. Moon publishes many different series of travel guides, including Moon Handbooks, Moon Outdoors, Moon MapGuide, and Moon Road Trip.”

What’s the best time of year to visit the Bahamas?

People often ask me “What’s the best time of year to visit the Bahamas?” or “What’s your favorite month?” While I can find pros (and sometimes cons) of each month and season throughout the year, I generally have an immediate reply.

10 Reasons to Visit the Out Islands of the Bahamas Now

It’s March again, nearly one year since the first of our lockdowns over Easter Weekend. For those of us who remained in the Bahamas during these lockdowns, it brought on an element of anxiety, unknowing, stress, and sadness. Our beautiful way of island life had...

Summer in the Bahamas: What to expect and why you should visit

Traditionally summer in the Bahamas has always been eerily quiet. Starting at the end of May, seasonal boaters got out of dodge in the event of impending hurricanes. Residents grabbed the kids and headed north on vacations to beat the heat. In September and October...

Top 10 Best Beach Bars and Restaurants in The Bahamas

There are hundreds of bars and restaurants throughout the Bahamas that serve up amazing eats along with a side of great vibes. But there's only a handful that are perched on the edge of some of our favorite beaches. We've come up with this Top Ten list based on...

Laid Back & Low Key in Long Island

When I mention Long Island, for many of us that big one off the Northeast coast of the US comes to mind. Venture a bit farther south and you'll hit a completely different Long Island right here in The Bahamas. Although I've never been to Long Island, New York, I...

Out with the Old, and in with Airbnb

We all watched in rapture this week as the old Crystal Palace Hotel imploded, but it has since crossed my mind that the hotel was not really very old. It actually had quite a short (and sordid) history in the grand scheme of things. Let’s face it, 35 years is not a...

A Mini-Travel Guide to Cat Island

Wedged between Long Island and Eleuthera, and of similar shape, Cat Island is a long, skinny island (48 miles running northwest to southeast) with an Italian-style boot-shaped landmass at the south end. The island is littered with ruins of stone cottages from the...

For Nature Lovers – Getaway to Andros

Andros may not be on the forefront of your radar of top places to visit, but it very well should be. Andros is filled with options for nature lovers and it's just a quick hop away from the big city of Nassau. If you are planning to visit Nassau, I highly...

A Romantic Escape – Overnight in The Berry Islands

Couples looking to truly get away from it all and enjoy one-on-one time with no distractions will find that Great Harbour Cay has a certain romantic vibe about it. Great Harbour Cay, located just north of Nassau in The Berry Islands, has seen an influx in...

Top 11 Best Beaches in The Bahamas

It is nearly impossible to narrow down the best beaches in The Bahamas, since it seems as though every beach you come across is the most beautiful beach you’ve ever seen. After traveling the islands of The Bahamas extensively and stepping foot on beach after glorious beach, I’ve narrowed it down to my top 11 favorites.

The Irresistible Enchantment of Kamalame Cay

Kamalame Cay is luxurious and ever-stylish, yet decidedly unpretentious. It's small and intimate, with an alluring sense of spaciousness. You can breathe here. You have everything you need, yet you also realize what you can do without. You tune into nature...

The Endless Allure of Harbour Island’s Charm

Harbour Island regularly ranks high as a top island destination. Known as “Briland” by the locals, it attracts an elite socialite crowd during the winter months for its famous Pink Sand Beach, top restaurants and hotels, and the allure of navigating narrow streets lined with historic cottages in a golf cart.

World Class Amenities with an Eco-Friendly Mindset

I feel as though I have stumbled upon a hidden gem, one that ticked all of the boxes for an Out Island getaway. The customer service was second to none, the accommodations were sinfully luxurious, and the natural landscape is the epitome of what we all love about the Exumas.

Exploring Eleuthera

The dynamic landscape of Eleuthera and its surrounding islands are a combination of rocky headlands reminiscent of the rugged Irish coastline, separated by ambling stretches of gentle powder-sand beaches. Eleuthera could vaguely resemble a swordfish or narwhal whale...

Island Hopping in The Abacos

The islands of The Abacos are an extraordinary place; so close to the doorstep of the United States, but truly a world away. 180 miles east of West Palm Beach, this archipelago consists of more than 100 islands, covering 120 miles, but only a handful are populated.

Pearl Island is the latest getaway with a true Out Island feel, welcoming guests for just over one year now. Located just a short boat ride from downtown Nassau, this charming barrier island is marked with a pastel and white lighthouse…

Craft Beer in The Bahamas

Anyone that knows me would likely be aware of my passion for beer and brewing. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest gave me access to craft beer from the start of my beer-drinking experiences, and I was fortunate to live in one of the first areas in the USA to...

What’s the Deal with Freeport?

Lighthouse Pointe at Grand Lucayan recently went on a weekend trip to Freeport to meet up with my husband's parents and visit old family friends. Although he was born there and lived there until he was about 7 years old, he hadn't visited in almost...

Escape to The Exumas

Visitors to The Bahamas typically find themselves booking their trip to the obvious hub of Nassau, oftentimes without knowing what else may be out there. With 700 islands to choose from, it can be overwhelming to pick from one of the many out islands without prior experience or a recommendation. Nassau has a lot to offer various travelers, but who wouldn’t want to to escape the throngs of tourists, commercialized hotels and noisy jet ski operations, and go in search of somewhere a bit more low key (or shall I say “cay”)?
