Bringing your Pet
If you plan to bring your pet into The Bahamas, you’ll need to apply for an Importation Permit through the Department of Agriculture. The process is now digital via the government’s Click2Clear platform.
After registering for an account, you can submit your application and pay the $10 fee (plus VAT) online. Once approved, you’ll receive an official permit outlining the veterinary requirements, which you’ll take to your vet in your home country to complete.
Basic Requirements
According to the Department of Agriculture’s guidelines, all imported pets must:
Be at least six months old
Be microchipped
Have a current rabies vaccination
Be immunized for common viruses and diseases
Be accompanied by an official veterinary health certificate from their home country
Certain breeds are not permitted entry into the Bahamas:
Dogs: Pit Bull, Cane Corso, Presa Canario, American Bully, Dogo Argentino, and Staffordshire Terrier
Cats: Savannah, Chausie, and Bengal
Travel Tips
If your pet is small enough to travel in-cabin, your experience will likely be much easier. Checked pets can experience stress and discomfort during travel, so research airlines carefully—some are far better equipped to handle animal transport than others. Online forums and travel groups are a great resource for up-to-date experiences from fellow pet travelers.
For a more comfortable journey, consider charter flights from South Florida directly into Odyssey Aviation or Jet Aviation in Nassau. Charter options allow your pet to travel beside you, greatly reducing stress for both animal and owner.
