If you've ever spent time in the Northern Exumas,

If you've ever spent time in the Northern Exumas, perhaps you've bumped into Mikey Goodwin on Yamacraw. Mikey and his much loved 1922 Chesapeake Bay Buyboat "Yammy" have been running supplies between Nassau and remote islands of the northern Exumas such as Highbourne Cay, Norman's Cay, and other small, private islands for many, many years.

Each week he loads groceries, tools, construction materials, and even golf carts from the dock in downtown Nassau to drop at the various islands on his route. He contends with weather, boat issues, and Bahamian logistical challenges, but he still keeps bringing much needed supplies to remote islands.

We had many evenings back in the day at the Norman's Cay Beach Club when Mikey would serenade us with his guitar, and we've hopped a ride on Yamacraw a few times, he even gave us a tow back to Nassau when our boat broke down. Mikey is a character, a true modern-day pirate, usually joined by his wife Di. We are so grateful to have gotten the chance to get to know them and their unique lifestyle over the years.

Recently there was a lovely writeup in @woodenboatmagazine about his life growing up in the Bahamas and the history of these unique trawlers. It's always fun to see a shoutout to our local legends in renowned publications.

One of the photos shows a rare shot of Yamacraw with her sister boat The Pearl, usually plying the waters around Ship Channel Cay.
